Don't Tell Mother

Bangalore, 1990s. 9 year-old Aakash grows up in an apparently ordinary family. He and his younger brother are mischievous and often visit their grandmother who lives nearby. At school, there is this maths teacher who raps Aakash’s knuckles for talking too much, something he keeps hidden from his mother. She is strict, but she is caring. She longs for independence but finds herself constrained by traditional family expectations.

Don’t tell Mother is Anoop Lookur’s heartwarming debut, enriched with delightful small touches of humour. Through the eyes of his young protagonist, he revisits traumatic childhood experiences while also evoking warm and tender memories from this period, particularly those involving his mother.
